Having just finished up with the celebration of Faith, Academics, and Service here at Our Lady of the Angels School during Catholic Schools week, I would like to take this space to reflect on these things in action as I see them daily here in the school.

Faith.  Above all else, we are a Catholic School.  There are so many ways our children are learning about how to live a life of faith.  Prayer is an integral part of our day and if you are reading this, at some point you have probably been a "prayer intention."  We pray for our families, our friends, those hurting, and those in need.  We pray for success and ask for help when we fail.  We learn how to care for others with the love of Jesus Christ and to live our lives by His example.  Our "We Know What Jesus Would Do" program has caught many students going beyond what is expected to help someone.  Religion is more than a 45 minute class here.  It is who we are.

Academics.  Setting the bar high, expecting that our students come to class prepared, assigning meaningful homework, teaching students how to organize their thoughts and their things, helping them to investigate, inquire,  and to be creative, we prepare our students to EARN the A's and the B's that they are so proud of.  As I walk through the halls, sit in classrooms, and read over various sets of papers, I am impressed by the quality work our students produce always.

Service. Helping others.  Being a friend in time of need.  Hat and mitten collections, food drives, penny drives, collecting items for abandoned/sheltered animals, used book collections,... Monetary donations to St. John's Food for the Poor, The Jimmy Fund, our friends in Haiti,...  Our children know there are people who need help from those of us in a position to help them.  They often ask if we can do more!  We are a community of believers who do not look past the needs in our community but try to help wherever and whenever we can.

OLA School is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow into educated, caring young people who will bring many positive things to our society.  I am honored to be at the helm and will continue to do my best to ensure the best possible education and atmosphere that a Catholic Education can provide for our students.

Peace and blessings,

Doreen Albert, Principal
